Hmmm...I was promised by my study conductor that when I "make the truth my own" a lot will change and I will be in a better place, or some garbage along the lines...
Well, we never lived to se the day....(and we are still alive )

i'm james i'm new to this forum as of today and i'm a ex-jw who was "born into the truth" and then left it officially at the age of twenty after "drifting out" of it for some time.
i'm now 34 and whilst i'm not exactly happy with the world i'm living in, i'm largely happy with my own life.. one question i've got about this forum - i didn't join for a long time because i thought it was for active jw's (based on the web-site url), not ex jw's, but then looking at the threads, it seems it is more for ex-jw's!
what is the demographic for the membership?
JamesS and losthobbit, WELCOME!
how wonderful would it be to put this handy little guide in the elder's manual..... this is for all of you guys who have had to sit through an elder's, co, convention, rbc, whatever meeting and there's 500 "brothers" asking the stupidest questions ever.. .
.
I love how the answer to "Can't this wait till after the meeting?" gets the same results...
i am a columinst for cornell university's "the diplomacist".
i recently wrote an article on the various troubles jehovah's witnesses are facing in russia.
i try to make the point that, even if you do not support the witnesses (and most don't) you should support freedom of thought, expression and religion.. if you are interested in checking it out, here it is: "snuffing out religious freedom in russia".
honorsthesis,
...The best strategy is to allow the WT organization in Russia to eliminate itself

Podobear,
Ban the Bible... then perhaps ban the JW's.. then see what happens..
This is not in defense of JYD, but for the use of the same old slippery slope fallacy to make a point.
then see what happens?.....then what stops us from banning religion altogether..then who's to say that we shouldn't ban the right of free speech...then it is just as easy to ban entertainment...then we can ban eating outdoors...then cars, planes and traveling can be banned...then we can ban free existense and stick everyone in a camp..then we can just kill everyone who does not conform.....
See how this can go on irrational whatifs forever. That's why your reasoning has long been identified as a fallacy.
JYD is obviously very passionate about his views and, frankly, he may have his reasons to feel this way.
The point of the criticism on this thread is the fact that the JW broke the law in Russia and got punished for it. What law has JYD broken so far?
this is directly from the horse's mouth.
it is a rather old press release on jw-media.org.
note that the wt claims there is no change in doctrine, where the settlement language (in what we have seen translated from french) clearly shows dropping the df over the ban on blood.. .

"For Immediate Release
October 8, 1998
After years of arrests, beatings, and loss of property, Jehovah’s Witnesses have regained legal recognition in Bulgaria. They are the first religion in the country to successfully appeal to an international body in order to regain legal recognition. Dozens of religions were banned in 1994.
This legal recognition, which was received Wednesday, October 7, 1998, represents an important victory for religious freedom in the country and throughout Eastern Europe, said Lubomir Kutchoukov, spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Bulgaria. “We are grateful that appeals to international standards of human rights have led to this reasonable and peaceful conclusion,” he said. “All people of Bulgaria will benefit from this victory.”
This important legal victory came after intervention from the European Commission of Human Rights of the Council of Europe. In July 1997, the Commission suggested that the government of Bulgaria enter into a friendly settlement with Jehovah’s Witnesses. On March 8, 1998, the Commission accepted the terms of the settlement, which included the government’s promise to grant legal recognition to Jehovah’s Witnesses. As part of the settlement, Bulgaria also agreed to create a bill that will allow alternative civilian service for conscientious objectors. The terms of the agreement involved no change in the doctrine of Jehovah’s Witnesses." (emphasis mine)

Am I reading this wrong? Isn't part of the JW doctrine that there should be NO BLOOD, and the offenders are condemned to spiritual death?
Is this an outright lie, or is it a cleverly worded legal statement?
What do you think?

Path of least resistance for the WT, I guess...It would be really easy to ban them in, say, Saudi Arabia. Oh, wait, they are already banned there
Problem comes when you take your show on the road with the same freedom-laden mindset. The spirit of the article is that same freedoms should be extended on the road and for anything less we have a violation of rights.

MrFreeze,
....because if its okay to ban JW's, where do our freedoms end?
This is a classic slippery slope fallacy.
Freedoms are very well defined and protected in the western world. It may not be the case in Russia or elsewhere in the world. An 18 old has the freedom to drink in Russia. Are the freedoms of the same 18 year old violated because he cannot drink in America?
It is the law, and the law in many instances limits freedoms.
Russian law says one should NOT disseminate certain materials. The WT broke the law. The WT got canned....
i have noticed, as many of us on this board have, that the watchtower's tone is getting harsher.. my friend and i have a love of the part of psychology that studies group think.
we noticed something peculiar about how the watchtower seems to approach control of the members.. they seem to subliminally build a villain.
a person that the group is not to be like.. what is happening is not an adjustment of the acceptable part of the group but a refining of the qualities of this villain.. what then naturally happens in the group is an aversion from whatever activities or persons that may be similar to the villain.. in other words, the accepted members' activities will be diametrically apposed to what ever this imaginary villain does.
This is, if I may use the cliché, thinking outside the box. I will be following this thread.
Thank you for this "uplifting spiritual experience"

12 the watchtower ?
5 what good results there can be when.
children are trained to keep a simple eye!.
All other nonsense aside, the last sentence should read:
"Why!?!?!?!?, they stoned her to death and told her how disappointed they were of her!"
